HI! Jewelhistory.com has moved to LoriEttlingerGross.com. I'm very excited to roll out my new blog space! I'll be doing things a bit differently here. The focus will be on jewelry and it's narrative in a contemporary way, not only it's history and cultural significance. For example, in the coming weeks I'll be working with artist and studio artisan, Derrick Cruz, on a personal project. I want you to see how a ring design comes to life: the seed that planted the idea, it's incubation and nurturing, and it's bloom. This is a process that most people rarely get a chance to see so intimately and with a time-stop kind of approach.
What I also hope to accomplish here is getting to know my readers and their interests. I did a lot of the talking on Jewelhistory as recounted our connection to baubles with a past. Here, I'd like to know more about you and how jewelry makes its way into your life. Styling will have more of a role here and I hope you will not hesitate to tap into my reserves and ask questions. I will be posting videos too so that you can get a real sense of how jewelry works it way into our hearts, minds, and wardrobe. I want feedback and conversation. Please feel free to post or ask questions, make (nice, appropriate, and compelling) comments, or feel free to shoot me an email.
And finally, I've missed you and have new journeys to share. Next month, I'm going back to school for my masters degree at The New School in NYC in The History of Design and Curatorial Studies. Jewelry is getting a new curator and maybe a new designer too (after consulting for a while I think it might be time). I thought I was done after law school with a formal education. Turns out, beginnings, like sparkle, are where you find them...
